Netflix just released the first trailer for its new thriller sci-fi Stowaway. It has an amazing cast including Daniel Dae Kim, Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, and Shamier Anderson. The movie is directed and co-written by Joe Penna. Producers of the movie are Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Ulrich Schwarz and Clay Pecorin. The film consists of a crew of a spaceship on its way to Mars where they find an accidental stowaway sometime after the takeoff. Penna last directed a film around the tundra survival called the Arctic with Mads Mikkelsen in the lead which premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Stowaway is Penna’s second feature movie. The audience surely is expecting the same survivalist genre, this time in space. The movie is going to be released on Netflix and Prime video globally on 22nd April 2021.
The trailer begins with a usual set-up in a spaceship on its way to mars. The stowaway realizes the fact that he is stuck in space, initially, he is quite scared and wants to go back home but when the crew members say that this is a lifetime opportunity he is up for it and makes the most out of it. Michael actually did not wish to go to space, he just worked as an engineer on the ship but he had too many commitments on the ground that it was not possible for him to just disappear at that time. Well, that’s exactly what happens, he accidentally gets stuck in the spaceship and has to be a part of the mission to Mars. After seeing the situation, the crew tries to adapt to the circumstances but it’s not possible.
Kendrick’s role is of a medical researcher on the spaceship. Collette is the ship’s commander and Kim’s role is of a biologist. While Anderson, who is known for his roles in “Love Jacked'' and “Wynonna Earpâ€, is the stowaway.
Recently Collete told Entertainment Weekly why she decided to join this Netflix project by saying “I had never really read anything like itâ€. This is her third Netflix act after “Unbelievable†and “I’m thinking of ending things†She also said, “It is contained and the characters are confined but the questions posed, moral and otherwise, are vast and wide open. It’s ultimately about community, survival, and sacrifice. Who can’t relate to that at the moment?â€
They were already isolated, now they have an extra member on the ship with them and they are in a situation where it’s hard to survive. We see some humor and friendly behavior within the crew. Overview of the purpose of this trip and some cool space visuals. Obviously, it’s never possible to easily finish a mission to space successfully so here’s the twist that there’s a confusion in choice baked on the life support malfunction that the spaceship only provides oxygen for three people on the journey to Mars. There are chances they might suffocate. It’s their decision now that they will head back to earth or face the consequences and try to complete the mission. No doubt they decide they will go and complete the mission.
