This movie is a murder mystery thriller and the plot mainly is about a professional writer known as Kabir Kapoor. After his first book turns out to be a bestseller, he signs a contract with Publication Company to publish another book with the. He recently got divorced from his wife, Rashmi who cheated on him with his publisher. But he is having writer’s block and can’t decide a good topic to write about the sequel of his motivational novel. To get a fresh idea he goes on A trip to Panchgani and stays in a cottage. There he meets Suhana and falls in love with her. But during that period, there are two murders that happened, and Kabir is taken as a suspect but later the suspect is shifted to Dr. Rao.. There’s something that Kabir is hiding, he has a secret and it is to do with the books. How long will he hide this?
Kabir wrote a murder mystery which was fictional about a character called Zaraan Khan as a hidden writer as it is cheap fictional pulp and not the motivational novels that his fans love. Alongside that, there are a lot of serial killings happening in the city and there is a team behind it investigating the case. These murders are quite similar to the murders that Zaraan Khan did in the fiction. How are the murders related to Kabir Kapoor and his book? Well, you gotta watch the movie in the cinema near you.
The movie also tries to showcase through Kunal’s character the pressure that writers go through to create a sequel to make it successful. Amayra Dastur’s character is quite similar to her own self. In major parts, she is a free-spirited girl. Some of her dialogues were the best lines of the film. Ashwini Kalsekar plays the role of a badass police officer and steals the show. Although, Karim Hajee’s character was not so good. It required better dialogue writing.
To know the truth, a bunch of people is digging in.. including Amyra’s character who has a dark past who is quite ditsy, Neha Mahajan, a part-time reporter, an agent, a cop, and a labrador dog called Charmer.
The biggest positive thing is the good music, the background builds tension and is very impactful. The production and set are decent according to the budget of the film, cinematography in the movie were also great, but in some scenes, it was a little standard. The dialogues are given in such a way to try to make it sound smart. But turns out to be very cheesy and gives a Bollywood vibe.
The story had potential but it got carried away. There were limited action and chase scenes which were done really well but it would have looked better if there was more of it. A fictional character from a book comes out of it in real life and it seems like he is the mastermind behind the killing happening in the city. This sounds interesting but the movie didn’t justify the idea. The movie started off well by building up the plot but lost it through the process. There were multiple loose ends in the story.
Well, watch Koi Jaane Na see Aamir Khan back on the big screen giving an amazing performance after 4 years and is the cherry on the cake in the movie. The songs are good and the music is given by Tanishk Bagchi, Amaal Mallik, Rochak Kohli, and Abhijit Vaghani and you’ll enjoy them in the movie. Although, Kunal and Amyra have definitely moved out of their comfort zones and have given a try to something different. Amyra Dastur will surprise you with her amazing performance. The chemistry between Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur is very nice.
Another problem with the movie is its long length. They could have easily chopped off some portions from the movie easily as they dragged the movie unnecessarily for two hours. It takes a lot of time to reach the climax, a lot of dialogues, songs, characters were not required. This movie goes on for 2 and half hours. If it was short and crisp, the movie would have been engaging and the audience would feel the curiosity of what will happen next.
The story is interesting and looks great on paper but is not executed very well. The screenplay of the movie is weak and dull and you need a lot of patience to watch it completely. The climax of the movie is good and a few scenes in the movie will surprise you. It’s a one-time watch as it’s poorly executed. The makers of the movie completely spoiled the amazing story.
